Welcome to Epic Econ!
I’m Evan Cunningham. Epic Econ Research - my solo outfit - is your definitive source for rigorous, data-driven, and accessible economic insights. I help policy makers, business leaders, and curious citizens better understand the forces shaping the U.S., Australian, and global economies.
I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota, and was formerly an economist at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, where I helped produce the official monthly jobs report. My research has won awards and been presented at leading conferences and universities around the world, and I have been interviewed by the Financial Times, the CBC, and other international media.
Are you interested in concise, actionable analysis of the most important U.S. and international economic data releases? Check out the Epic Econ Newsletter.
We are entering a golden age of private-sector labor market data. Interested in a monthly report synthesizing the highest-quality data to provide a timely snapshot of the U.S. labor market? Check out the Epic Econ Private Sector Jobs Report.
I’m also working on Economic Briefs for the U.S. and Australia. These are concise, actionable quarterly reports that cover everything you need to know about the state of these economies. More info below!
Finally, I am available for bespoke economic research or data consulting projects, as well as media enquiries or interviews. Shoot me a message at evan.cunningham@epicecon.com.
Have an epic day!

Struggling to keep up with the latest macroeconomic trends and policy shocks?
Too busy to spend days finding and cleaning the data yourself?
Tired of reading formulaic government reports, superficial news articles, and anodyne corporate commentary?
everything you need to know about the U.S. economy in an actionable and concise report
The Epic U.S. Economic Brief
The EPIC U.S. Economic Brief
The definitive quarterly report on the U.S. economy for busy professionals.
COMPREHENSIVE
I provide a comprehensive overview of the U.S. economy, including national output, income, and spending; labor markets; business production and sales, prices and inflation, housing markets, government finances, and monetary policy and financial conditions. If a subject is necessary to understand the state of the U.S. economy, I discuss it.
CONCISE
Brevity is key. I spend the time filtering signal from noise so you don’t have to.
INDEPENDENT
Epic Econ provides independent, non-partisan economic research. I criticize or commend policy rather than people or party, based on the evidence, with a focus on how the decisions of elected leaders will impact the economic well-being of consumers and businesses across the country and world.
CURATED DATABASE INCLUDED
The EPIC U.S. Economic Brief comes with a curated database of U.S. macroeconomic time series in Excel or CSV form. Conduct your own analysis in minutes. I’ve tracked down and cleaned the data so you don’t have to.
