The Only Economist in Australia with Firsthand Experience
Producing the World’s Most influential Data Release
I’m Evan Cunningham - an American economist based in Sydney.
I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota, one of the world’s leading macroeconomics programs. Before moving to Australia, I worked in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, where I helped produce the official U.S. monthly jobs report: the single data release that moves global markets, shapes monetary policy, and sets the economic narrative each month.
That institutional knowledge — of how the most important economic data in the world is build, what it can tell you, and crucially, what it cannot — is what I bring to Epic Econ Research.
Epic Econ delivers formal, recurring macroeconomic research on the U.S. and Australian economies. Rigorous, structured analysis from an economist who has worked inside the institutions that drive the global economy — written for business leaders, investors, and policymakers who need to understand what is happening and why.
The free Epic Econ Newsletter is the best way to sample my approach before subscribing. On Substack, I provide:
Analysis of the most important U.S., Australian, and international data releases.
Breakdowns of key economic and public policy developments from around the world.
A monthly synthesis of U.S. private-sector labor market data to forecast and complement the official jobs report.
U.S. Brief
12 Formal Research Reports Per Year
AU$900/year (US$650/year)
The U.S. economy drives global growth, shapes monetary policy, and moves markets in every corner of the world — including Australia. But for most leaders outside the United States, it remains a black box. Understanding it requires insider knowledge of U.S. economic institutions, data, and politics, and how they interact to shape global outcomes.
The U.S. Brief delivers exactly that. Twelve times a year, you receive a structured, authoritative report on U.S. economic conditions: what the data shows, what it means for policy, and what it implies for Australia and the broader global economy.
Each report includes:
A comprehensive assessment of current U.S. economic conditions
Key policy and political developments and their economic implications
Forward-looking scenario analysis — where the economy is headed, and which indicators to watch
Actionable insights for an Australian and international audience
